If I could only reach you

If I could only reach you, in the lands where dark holds sway,
Bridge the gulf that separates the night time from the day.
I know that I could find out how to chase the shades away,
Save you from the shadows that may lurk along your way.
I am only mortal, though my heart can love for two,
Just the strength of my own hands I have to see me through.
But I will fight all comers, be they many, be they few,
For the right to take your hand, and spend my life with you.
Many years have smiled upon this quest to make you mine,
Had they not, the quest would not have stood the test of time.
Searching all the world to find a clue, a path, a sign;
Armed with but a welcome smile, with laughter, and with rhyme.
Hid beneath this wanderer’s garb, no hero can be found,
No lord of seven counties hides his magisterial gown.
There is no king, no prince, no earl, no baron of renown,
Just an honest man who needs no fanfares to resound.
If I could only reach you, in the lands where dark holds sway,
Bridge the gulf that separates the night time from the day.
I know that I could win your heart for all time, come what may,
Just take my hand and follow me, my love will guide the way.
