Nestled

Morning creeps into the room
Nascent light seeps into darkness
Like thin milk into coffee
Feeds my eyes with the sight
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
I have not slept, how could I?
A dream has been made real
And sleep may prove the dream
Strip the life from the reality
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
Staring at the patterns on the wall
Colours leach into the flowers
As if waiting only for my sight
To become as real as the vision
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
Mind replays the past few hours
Reel to real the scenes unfold
Each moment crystallises within
Paves the road leading to the truth
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
Stretch my tired and aching body
All I was has been consumed
I am empty, hollow, worn
Burned upon the sacred altar
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
But now your eyes are open
And I am pinned in headlight glare
Feel the inner fever build again
No more to savour the view
Of you in sumptuous repose
Nestled in the arms of sleep
