Farewell

Death came by degree
Descended slowly through the years
Whispered at first, shouted at last
Then faded beyond sight

Mournful shroud worn that day
Standing in respect
The sunshine rising quietly
Helping us to heal

The missing friend, lover, mate
Who’s presence no longer resides
Gone to sleep, a soundless sleep
Deep beneath our feet
